1,1'-Binaphthyl-2,2'-diphosphines (I) and 1,1'-binaphthyl-2,2'-di(phosphine oxides) (II) are new. 1,1'-Binaphthyl-2,2'-diphosphines of formula (I) and 1,1'-binaphthyl-2,2'-di(phosphine oxides) of formula (II) are new; [Image] R 1, R 2H or substituents; Ar 1, Ar 2alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or aralkyl; X 1, X 2alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, aralkyl, haloalkyl, nitroalkyl, aminoalkyl, Br, Cl, I, OH, OCOR, OR, SR, CN, CH 2NH 2, COOH, COOR, CH 2OH, CONHR', CH 2NHCOR', CH 2NHCONHR', CH 2N=CHR, CH 2NCO, CH 2NH 3+, NHR, NRR, N=CHR, NHNH 2, N 3, NCO, Mg or Li; R : alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl or phenyl; R' : R or naphthyl. Independent claims are also included for: (1) 22 processes for preparing compounds (I) and (II); (2) polymers (III) prepared by reacting (I) with monomers; (3) production of polyureas by reacting (I;X 1=X 2=CH 2NH 2) with di- or polyisocyanates; (4) production of polyamides by reacting (I;X 1=X 2=CH 2NH 2) with a dicarboxylic acid; (5) transition metal complexes of (I) and (II).
