The method involves extruding a profile using a thread and cutting out a trap door from the extruded profile. A body (11A) of a hub cap is extruded from the profile using another thread that is different from the former thread. An opening (16A) is cut in the extruded hub cap body and the door is inserted in the opening of the body. An independent claim is also included for a hub cap of a roof of a motor vehicle.
