PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for producing a lithium-containing iron oxyhydroxide capable of expressing a large capacity; and to provide a nonaqueous electrolyte electrochemical cell using the lithium-containing iron oxyhydroxide. PSOLUTION: In the method for producing the lithium-containing iron oxyhydroxide, lithium is occluded in iron oxyhydroxide by bringing a complex solution wherein metal lithium and a polycyclic aromatic compound are dissolved in a solvent into contact with iron oxyhydroxide. Further, an electrode containing the lithium-containing iron oxyhydroxide obtained by the method is used as a positive or negative electrode of the nonaqueous electrolyte electrochemical cell.
