PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the compression efficiency of dictionary data by using the connection (usage) of a character string. PSOLUTION: A CPU 10 encodes (compresses) the dictionary data and then prepares compressed dictionary data 300. In encoding a main data section 204, the CPU 10 forms a connected reference character string formed by connecting an adjacent character string encoded adjacent a character string for encoding of interest included in the main data section 204 to a reference character string stored on a reference table 206. Next, the character string for the encoding of interest is encoded out of the connected reference strings stored on the reference section 202 based on the sequence of the character strings of the encoding of interest.
