PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a machining tool made of surface-covered thermet whose hard covering layer can exert excellent anti-chipping performance in the high-speed intermittent machining of a hard-to-machine material.;SOLUTION: The machining tool made of surface-covered thermet is structured so that a tight attached underlay layer (a) and a high-temperature reinforce sub-layer are formed on the surface of a tool base made of WC-based cemented carbide or TiCN-based thermet, wherein the tight attached underlay layer (a) consists of one or more of TiC layer, TiN layer, TiCN layer, TiCO layer, and TiCNO layer while the high-temperature reinforce sub-layer is formed through a heating process of a vapor deposition (Cr, Al)2O3 layer to meet the composition expression (Cr1-XAlX)2O3 in the vapor-deposited condition, provided that X is atomic ratio between 0.20-0.35.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
