PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oxidation catalyst with excellent oxidation performance and economical property capable of efficiently oxidizing/removing a lower unsaturated hydrocarbon (particularly ethylene and propylene) with high catalytic activity even in the gas containing sulfur oxide.;SOLUTION: The catalyst is formed by carrying platinum on a zirconia carrier. In the catalyst, a ratio of platinum may be 0.5-20 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. of zirconia. The lower unsaturated hydrocarbon can be efficiently oxidized/removed with high catalytic activity by contacting a gas to be treated containing oxygen, sulfur oxide and the lower unsaturated hydrocarbon (ethylene, propylene or the like) with such a catalyst at a predetermined temperature (for example, 175-300°C).;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
