PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform a point for finding a new feather keratin hydrolyzate which is an industrially useful method for utilizing feather, a point for finding further application field of the feather keratin hydrolyzate and a point for establishing a method for producing the feather keratin hydrolyzate as tasks.;SOLUTION: Feather is immersed into a nonalkaline aqueous solution containing or not containing a reducing agent and the aqueous solution is heated to a temperature close to glass transition point of feather while pressurizing the aqueous solution to soften the feather and pH of the resultant feather-containing nonalkaline aqueous solution is adjusted to be alkaline by adding a base thereto and a protease is added to the aqueous solution in order to carry out hydrolysis reaction and the softened feather is partially digested and then chemically modified with a hydrophilic substituent group to solubilize the feather or the feather is solubilized in a state of a polymer in an aqueous solution of one or more compounds selected from urea, an alcohol and a polyhydric alcohol.
