PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem wherein it is not preferable to discharge heat out of a heat engine by increasing the lowest operation temperature from the viewpoint of engine efficiency because a diesel engine is the heat engine and its efficiency is determined by difference between the highest and the lowest operation temperatures. PSOLUTION: A lightweight and compact heat pump capable of being installed in an automobile and a high performance/low pollution diesel engine vehicle utilizing the heat pump are constituted in such a way that difference between operation temperatures of the diesel engine is increased as much as possible to increase engine efficiency and heat of its low temperature exhaust gas is increased up to catalyst activation temperature and is supplied into a catalyst device.
