PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display which prevents image contrast from dropping by eliminating irregular reflection of incident light.;SOLUTION: This is an electro-optical device having pixels arranged in matrix, and has a substrate or an insulation film which has a flat surface buried with a light shading material in the grooves formed on the light shading layer to shade the incident light to the electro-optical device. The manufacturing method of the electro-optical apparatus has: a groove forming step to form grooves in the shape of a light shading layer on the substrate or the insulation film; a light shading material film forming step to form a film of the light shading material at least in the area including the above grooves; and a flattening step to form a patterning shape of the above light shading film matching the above grooves and to flatten the above substrate or insulation film provided with the light shading material in the grooves.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
