ADAPTIVE SMOOTHING FILTERING DEVICE AND FILTERING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an adaptive smoothing filtering device that eliminates noise while preventing the apexes of a polygon that indicates the features of the original shape of a true object from being smoothed, and that makes it possible to automatically stop repeating operations of a mathematical arithmetic equation used in filtering process.;SOLUTION: The adaptive smoothing filtering device uses the filtering process to eliminate noise contained in a 3D model obtained by the modeling of a real three-dimensional object. The 3D model after the filtering process can have a smooth surface and retain the exact shape of the real three-dimensional object. The device includes a first means for making computations based on the numerical recursive equation of a thermal diffusion equation in order to eliminate the noise; a second means for determining a heat transfer coefficient while assuming curvature as thermal energy; and a third means for determining the result of the filtering process at the time when a distribution of thermal energy reaches a thermal equilibrium state.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
