PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide modified silica-based sol having high refractive index, excellent dispersion stability and exhibiting ultraviolet shielding ability corresponding to a kind of a metal of a basic metallic compound.;SOLUTION: The modified silica-based sol is formed by bonding the basic metallic compound expressed by formula (1) to the surface of silica-based particles. The formula (1) is [M2(OH)nX(2a-n)/b]m and in the formula, M expresses one or more kinds of 3- and/or 4-valent metallic cation, X expresses an anion, (a) is the valency of metallic cation, (b) is the valency of anion and 1≤n≤7, n2a and 1≤m≤20 are satisfied. The metallic cation of the basic metallic compound preferably contains at least ferric ion, the average particle diameter of the modified silica-based particles is 5-80 nm, the pH is 0.1-5 and the concentration as s solid portion is preferably 5-60 wt.%.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
