PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the loss of an optical mixer which realizes polarization-nondependent mixing by using two-time passage through a single nonlinear medium.;SOLUTION: Disclosed is a device which is equipped with a mixer (20), a combiner (14), and 1st and 2nd reflectors (30, 40) and mixes signals. The mixer (20) has 1st and 2nd inputs and further has 1st and 2nd outputs. The combiner (14) has 1st and 2nd parts; and the 1st output provides a mixed signal (56) for the 1st part and the 2nd part provides a coupled signal (72) for the 2nd input. The 1st reflector (40) receives the remaining signal (62) from the 1st part and provides a reflected composite signal (70) for the 2nd part. The 2nd reflector (30) receives a pump signal (58) separated from the 1st part and provides a reflected pump signal (60) for the 2nd part.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
