PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical compensating film having an excellent viewing angle compensating function and to provide an optical compensating film capable of improving the endurance of its viewing angle compensating function with time, a viewing angle compensating polarizing plate and a liquid crystal display.;SOLUTION: In the optical compensating film whose retardation Ro in a plane represented by the expression (I): Ro=(nx-ny)×d is 20-70 nm and whose retardation Rt in the thickness direction represented by the expression (II): Rt={(nx+ny)/2-nz}×d is 70-400 nm, the optical compensating film is a cellulose ester film whose width is ≥1.3 m and a maximum tilt angle of a slow axis in the overall width of the film is within ±0.7°. In the expressions, nx is a refractive index in the direction of a phase lagging axis in the film plane; ny is a refractive index in the direction of a phase advancing axis in the film plane; nz is a refractive index in the film thickness direction; and d is the thickness of the film.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
