PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rope tension measuring device for an elevator and a rope tension measuring method using the device, capable of accurately, easily and simultaneously measuring tension of a plurality of suspension ropes and having excellent working properties.;SOLUTION: The rope tension measuring device 6 comprises a support frame 7 where a recessed part 7a is formed on one side face and a clayey material 9 filled into the recessed part 7a of the support frame 7. A worker grips handles 8, 8 and performs work for pressing the rope tension measuring device 6 against the plurality of suspension ropes 3a, 3b, 3c arranged in parallel. Degrees of the tension of the plurality of suspension ropes 3a, 3b, 3c are measured by the sizes of recesses formed on the clayey material 9 by the pressing work.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
