PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a face identification device for identifying a face by determining whether or not a region estimated as the face of an object person in a pickup image is suitable for identifying the face of the object person. PSOLUTION: This image identification device is provided with a face image estimating means 50 which estimates the face region of an object person in a pickup image, a pupil candidate point detecting means 60 which defines the face region into an image of a reference size to obtain a reference image, and detects the right pupil candidate point and left pupil candidate point of the object person from a retrieval region set with the center of gravity of the face region as a reference within the reference image, a data generating means 70 for reference which generates a normalized image from the reference image with the right pupil candidate point and the left pupil candidate point as a reference, and creates data for reference for evaluating whether or not the face region is valid from the normalized image, a face region evaluating means 80 which calculates approximation between the data for reference and preliminarily prepared reference data, and evaluates the validity/invalidity of the face region based on the calculated approximation and a face identification means 90 which identifies the face of the object person.
