PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element which does not have a driven part and singly compensates for the primary, secondary, or higher order group delayed dispersion at various kinds of center wavelengths.;SOLUTION: A different photonic crystal array of which each area in a screen has a different optical axis and a different grating interval is used. A position to which the light is made incident in the array is suitably selected corresponding to center wavelengths of the light and group delayed dispersion amount to be compensated. The primary, secondary, or higher order group delay dispersion can be compensated for in a wide range of optical wavelengths by preparing lots of areas of which the grating intervals and optical axis directions of the photonic array are made different.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
