PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide phosphorescent luminescent materials having a molecular formula of Ir(ppy)2(Ar) such as Ir(ppy)2(dbq) and Ir(ppy)2bhq capable of higher luminous efficiency in phosphorescent luminescence alternative to Ir(ppy)3.;SOLUTION: Ir(ppy)2(dbq) is prepared by dissolving Na3[IrCl6] in a solvent methoxyethanol, adding Hppy(2-phenylpyridine), stirring for some hours at room temperatures, then heating at a suitable temperature for 24 hours to give [Ir(ppy)2Cl]2, adding AgCF3SO3 and an excess amount of Hdbq, heating at a suitable temperature for a suitable hour under Ar ventilation to give yellow-white solid mass followed by removal of an excess amount of Hdbq with cyclohexane to give Ir(ppy)2(dbq). In Ir(ppy)2(dbq) is observed phosphorescence at a major wave of 530 nm rather than 510 nm of Ir(ppy)3 and a photoexcitation spectrum monitoring the phosphorescence appears with a structure at approximately the site of mirror image of the phosphorescence.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
