PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for controlling an implantable drug delivery device susceptible to malfunctioning during exposure to at least one of the magnetic field and the radio frequency field, and a method for operating the same. PSOLUTION: A microcontroller 115 receives an input signal from a detector 105 when at least one of the detected magnetic field and radio frequency field exceeds a predetermined threshold level, and automatically triggers at least one of (i) a safety mode enabling a predetermined safety mode operation that alters some operation, without ceasing all operation, of the implantable drug delivery device, and (ii) a self-testing mode enabling a predetermined self-testing operation to verify proper operation of the implantable drug delivery device after expiration of a predetermined safety mode time interval or after the lapse of a predetermined period when the at least one field falls below the predetermined threshold level.
