PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure high symmetry of a ball spline groove with respect to the axial center of an input shaft of a toroidal continuously variable transmission, and to improve cutting efficiency.;SOLUTION: An annular cutting tool 11 having, on its circumference, a plurality of cutting edges formed in the same shape as the cross sectional shape of a desired ball spline groove formed on the outer diameter section of the input shaft 105 or a plurality of cutting edges formed in the same shape as a part of the cross sectional shape of the desired ball spline groove is made to cut the outer diameter section of the input shaft while being positioned to the input shaft. An index table 15 and core push stand 16 for rotating the cutting tool about a shank 12 and supporting the input shaft are moved by a movable table 14 by a predetermined distance in the axial direction of the input shaft. Thus, the outer diameter section of the input shaft is cut by the cutting tool to form a ball spline groove in the outer diameter section.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
