PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for identifying a substance, which is a marker reflecting the crisis or advance of cancerous cachexia and can detect and measure the cancerous cachexia by simple biochemical examination, to detect the same, and an examination method for the advance level of the cancerous cachexia. PSOLUTION: The determination values of apolipoprotein A-II contained in a plurality of serum samples originating from the same cancerous mammal are compared with each other between the serum samples to detect a change in the quantity of apolipoprotein A-II in the serum of the cancerous mammal.
