PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for determining the proliferation stage of a microorganism.;SOLUTION: The method for determining the proliferation stage comprises (1) the step where the microorganism in a sample is dyed with a nucleic acid-specific fluorescent pigment, (2) the step where the resultant specimen is introduced into a flow cytometer and individual dyed microorganisms are irradiated with light and the optical information that is emanated from each microorganism and shows the size of the microbial cell and the optical information that shows the dyeing degree of the microorganism are measured, and (3) the step where the proliferation stage of microorganism is determined by analyzing the proliferation stage by combining the optical information showing the size of the microorganism with the optical information showing the dyeing degree of the microorganism.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
