PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illumination device capable of collecting light from a variety of different light sources and, thereby, increasing the intensity without accompanying short-comings in the conventional light source such as the requisition of large space, heat loss of large energy, large required energy, short life, low intensity (durability) and big weight.;SOLUTION: The illumination device for optical observation instrument such as stereo microscope or stereo surgical microscope in particular has an LED unit constituted so as to contain at least one light emitting diode radiating red color light, at least one light emitting diode radiating green color light and at least one light emitting diode radiating blue color light, or at least one light emitting diode radiating yellow color light and at least one light emitting diode radiating blue color light. Further, on a plurality of the light emitting diodes 1a - 1e, a multi-arm light transmitter 2 having a branch/bundle part (combining/integrating part) is disposed on the back and, on each of a plurality of the light emitting diodes 1a, 1b, 1c or 1d, 1e, the light receiving end part of respective one of light transmitter arms 2a, 2b, 2c is located.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
