PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which reduces costs by using a high-frequency clock common among pixel clock generators for a plurality of optical beams. PSOLUTION: A pixel clock generator comprises: a PLL part (51) which generates the high-frequency clock common among respective colors; a PWM clock generating part (57) which can designate the clock with any one of a reference cycle, a cycle shorter than the reference cycle, and a cycle longer than the reference cycle by dividing the frequency of the high-frequency clock so as to make the high-frequency clock a pixel clock; an internal synchronizing signal generating part (56) which generates a signal synchronizing with the pixel clock, by inputting the clock designated by the generating part (57); and a PWM data control part (58) which controls designated information on each pixel for the generating part (57). The control part (58) adjusts the frequency of the high-frequency clock so that the number of pixels for inserting the pixel clock with no reference cycle can be minimized, in terms of a color most easily causing unevenness in density.
