PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an arc welded lap joint structure which is highly reliable and is excellent in fracture morphology. PSOLUTION: Steel plates are jointed by welding under the following conditions: tensile strength of steel plates TS is 640MPa, Ceq(B) of steel plates is 0.4%, Ceq(W) of weld metal is TS/2,000-0.06, leg length of weld L1 is thickness of steel plates Ta, theoretical throat thickness Th is 0.7Ta, hardness of weld metal H(W) is hardness of steel plates H(B), Ceq(R) of welding wire is TS/1,000-0.30, and 1.710SP-2/SP(ln(Tb+1)v)/(VI)4.510SP-2/SP, where Tb, v, V and I denote the thickness of the steel plates, welding speed (cm/min), welding voltage (V) and welding current (A), respectively.
