The present invention relates to an illumination source of LCOS projection systems. The illumination source is a CRT which excites the array (105) resonant microcavity phosphor-based. In order to use an array of resonant microcavity, by selecting a uniform phosphor type, it is possible to design the CRT to generate exclusively the light of a selected color. The light can pass through the (212) LCOS device, so as to generate an image, placing the resonant microcavity. In order to project on the screen, it is also possible in order to focus an enlarged image, is provided with a (216) projection lens.
