PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maximize a transmission rate in a multi-antenna transmission system. PSOLUTION: The invention is associated with an adaptive modulation technology for the multi-antenna transmission with partial channel recognition. First, it states a transmission device that has a two-dimensional beamformer in which an encoded data stream is transmitted along two of orthogonal reference beams and is power-loaded. The transmission device adjusts the reference beams, power distribution among two of the beams, and a signal constellation. Then, it states a partial CSI (Channel State Information) model for an OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexed) transmission on an MIMO (Multi-Input Multi-Output) frequency-selective fading channel. In particular, it states an adaptive MIMO-OFDM transmission, where the adaptive two-dimensional coder-beamformer with adaptive power and bit-load scheme across an OFDM sub-carrier are applied to each OFDM sub-carrier.
