PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multiport device used for controlling a plurality of devices via serial communication ports, a method for multiport serial communication which communicates with a plurality of devices especially using two serial communication ports mounted on a host computer, a device suitable for this, a method for controlling this device, and a recording meduium suitable for this control method.;SOLUTION: The method for communicating by connecting a computer and a plurality of devices via serial communication ports features the following processes: a process to control a switch via a first serial communication port of the computer and to connect a port corresponding to a device to be communicated and a second serial communication port of the computer; and a process to communicate with a device to be controlled via the second serial communication port.
