Converter overload protection method and servo amplifier and multi-axis motor drive system of the method

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a converter from becoming out of order, even if a multi- axis system is operated unintentionally, at a level exceeding the overloading level thereof. SOLUTION: In the multi-axis motor drive system, where a plurality of servo- amplifiers are connected with one converter, an output is calculated from the product of a torque command for each axis and a motor rotational speed detection signal (25a); the output of the multi-axis system is calculated, by summing the outputs for individual axes (31) and the average of the outputs of the multi- axis system for one cycle of the operation of the multi-axis system is calculated (32); and when the average of the outputs of the multi-axis system exceeds the rated output of the converter (33), the operation on each axis is made to stop.
