PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrolyte membrane for an alcohol type fuel cell having excellent conductivity, and small methanol permeability. PSOLUTION: This electrolyte membrane for an alcohol type fuel cell is characterized by being formed by irradiating a proton-conductive membrane with an electron beam having an acceleration voltage of 5-45 KV in presence of an atmospheric gas at pressure in the range of 1-750 Torr and containing oxygen of a concentration of 500-10,000 ppm.
