PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an SO₂ treatment method and treatment equipment which are reduced in the use of chemicals and is good in reaction efficiency. ;SOLUTION: This method of treating the waste gas containing the SO₂ comprises introducing the waste gas to be treated which contains the SO₂ or SO₂ and NO and the OH radial forming component diluted by the OH radical forming component or N₂ by passing the OH radical acting as a trigger for a radical oxidation chain reaction of the SO₂ through a catalyst or UV irradiation means formed of H₂O₂ or HNO₃ into a flow tube which is maintained at 32750C in inner side surface temperature and of which the inner surface is formed of the borosilicate glass, quartz glass or alumino-silicate glass or a flow tube of which at least the surface is formed of the borosilicate glass, quartz glass or alumino-silicate glass and is maintained at 32750C in the glass surface temperature and subjecting the SO₂ to the oxidation treatment by the chain reaction including the formation of the HO₂ radical.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
