PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lead-base alloy for a lead storage battery having corrosion resistance and mechanical strength by setting contents of Ca, Sn and Ba within a prescribed range in the lead-base alloy, and to manufacture a lead-acid battery which can be stably used for a long period even under severe conditions at high temperatures by obtaining a positive electrode substrate by subjecting the alloy to casting or rolling and expanding or the like while preventing Ca and Ba from contacting with oxygen as much as possible so that they do not decrease by oxidization. PSOLUTION: The lead based alloy for a lead storage battery has a composition containing, by weight, 0.02 to 0.05% calcium, 0.4 to 2.5% tin, 0.005 to 0.04% aluminum and 0.002 to 0.014% barium, and the balance lead with inevitable components.
