PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect cutting resistance of tangential direction and normal direction of a tool movement in end mill machining, and also to provide a method for controlling the machining based on the detected value and a control device.;SOLUTION: Main partial force Ft and each motion shaft direction partial force Fx and Fy of the cutting resistance are determined by current values of a main shaft motor and a motion shaft motor to deliver a tool 1. An cutting related angle αen is determined by a radius R of the tool 1 and cutting amount I in a workpiece 2. A moving direction angle β is determined by each shaft distribution moving amount ΔX and ΔY. The tool movement tangential direction cutting resistance Fm and normal direction cutting resistance Fs are determined by the main partial force Ft and the largest shaft cutting resistance of each of the motion shaft direction partial force Fx and Fy of the cutting resistance, the cutting related angle αen and the moving direction angle β. Since the cutting resistances Fm and Fs are determined on the basis of the main partial force Ft receiving little influence of disturbance and the largest shaft cutting resistance, the resistances Fm and Fs are determined with high accuracy.
