A support shaft 12 is provided in the carriage 2, one end of an arm 11 is rotatably provided in the support shaft 12, and a pinion 9 engaging with the rack 8 and associating with a ribbon feed mechanism 24 is rotatably provided to the arm 11. An urging means 14 for urging the pinion 9 toward the rack 8 is provided in such a manner that one end 14a of the urging means 14 is locked to a locking part 11a of the arm 11 while the other end 14b thereof is locked to a locking part 13 of the carriage 2. According to an amount of movement of the carriage 2 which moves in a direction in which the carriage 2 is spaced relative to the rack 80, the arm 11 rotates along the rack 8 and maintains the pinion 9 so that the engagement of the pinion 9 with the rack 8 is not disengaged therefrom.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
