PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the recorder in which an edit efficiency is considerably improved by providing a camera section, 1st and 2nd recording sections, a signal processing section and a control means controlling each section above to the system. SOLUTION: Video and audio signals from a camera section 100 are recorded as they are onto a medium 160 by a recording section 150. The signals are compressed by a processing section 200 and recorded onto a medium 260 by a recording section 250. In the case of off-line edit, a system 400 generates edit list data while monitoring the video and audio signals recorded on a medium 380 and the data are recorded onto the medium 380. In the case of on-line edit, the medium 160 is set to a reproduction device 500 and the medium 380 is set to an edit device 450 respectively. Then based on data recorded on the medium 380, a system 550 controls the reproduction device 500 to provide an output of source based on the edit list data.
