PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new (thio)urea derivative useful for affording thermal recording media excellent in image preservability such as resistance to plasticizer, oil, moisture and water, and also excellent in the heat resistance of the base surface. ;SOLUTION: This new (thio)urea derivative is shown by formula I (R₁ to R₄ are each H, a 1-4 alkyl or halogen; X and Y are each O-atom of S-atom), e.g. 3-(phenylcarbamoylsulfamoyl)carbanilide. This compound of formula I is obtained, pref. for example, by reaction of 3-aminobenzenesulfonamide of formula II with an isocyanate compound of formula III [R₅ is a (substituted) monocyclic] aromatic group, condensed polycyclic aromatic group or the like at a temp. of -10 to 60°C under a neutral condition in an organic solvent such as acetone or a hydrous solvent to form a compound to which an aqueous solution of alkali hydroxide is then added, followed by carrying out a reaction with the corresponding isocyanate.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
