PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform measurement with low-power excitation light, so that the measurement does not require much time and labor, and prevent coupler such as connectors from being damaged.;SOLUTION: Transmission fiber 22 that is a gain substance is excited by excitation light from a pumping source 24 and emits amplified natural scattered light forward and backward in the propagating direction of the excitation light. When the forward scattered light is used, a light spectrum analyzer 26 is installed in a relay station 21, positioned in front of the transmission fiber 22 to receive the scattered light. When the backward amplified scattered light is received, since the component parts of an evaluation system can be installed in the same relay station, there exist the advantages that evaluation can be made with little time and labor, and that the cost for the evaluation can be reduced.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
