Chips and cutting fluid scattering prevention device for a machine tool

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent scatter of cutting chips and cutting fluid in a machine tool for machining a workpiece by relatively moving a main spindle to the workpiece.;SOLUTION: A cutting fluid supply device 7 is installed on a column 1 of the machine tool. The cutting fluid supply device 7 is provided with a shower nozzle composed of a circular slit, and a cutting fluid nozzle disposed inside the shower nozzle. A shower curtain is formed of a film of cutting fluid C discharged from the shower nozzle around a tool 4 and the main spindle 13. Cutting fluid applied to the chips, a tool or the workpiece to reflect and its mist are prevented from scattering by the shower curtain. A way to introduce outside air into the shower curtain is provided. Since the cutting fluid supply device 7 is installed on the column 1, inertia of the main spindle is not increased, and no effects are given to acceleration/deceleration performance. Since the length of the shower curtain is constant, a stable film is formed. Even when the main spindle is moved up for replacement of tools, the cutting fluid supply device 7 is not moved, thereby supply of cutting fluid C need not be stopped.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
