The communication unit (1), preferably a head set, has operating buttons (2,3) for adjustment of its electrical properties and is suspended in an ear hook adjustable so that the head set can be used on both left and right ears. The set on moving from the one to the other ear is turned through 180 degres whilst the ear hook position is unchanged. In order to ensure that the operating button function in relation to its position on the head set is the same, irrespective as to whether the set is borne on the left or right ear, fitted on the head set is a gravitation switch (6,7). This switch is formed as a channel or channel set (8,9) on a printed plate. In the channel or set is a ball or cylinder of conductive rubber. In either the channel or the channel set are through plates connected to a control circuit (10,11) which alters the operating button function, so that this function and its positioning on a move from one ear to the other is not altered in the perception of a user.
