The holder (1) has a first magnet (7) for securing the caliper inside it and a fastener (10) with a second magnet (8, 9) for securing it to an item of clothing or a metal surface. A device for hanging up or storing a metal caliper for use in engine building, especially for turning, so that the caliper is always directly within reach in the workplace, comprises a holder with magnets for securing the caliper directly to or inside it. The caliper can be slid into holder and held inside it by a first magnet. A releasable fastener on the holder is used to secure it to a button on an item of clothing such as an overall or to the button of a clip on a belt or strap being worn by the user. The fastener comprises a second magnet for securing it to a metal surface. The holder preferably comprises an injection-moldable material and can act as a packaging or protective case for the caliper.
