The stanchion is for the support of ceilings, beams or similar and comprises an outermost pipe (1), with a support foot (2) at one outer end and at the other end has an innermost pipe (3) which is telescopically displaceable. The outermost pipe at the outer end away from the support foot has an external screw thread onto which is screwed a screw component (6), by means of which the stanchion can be lengthened or shortened. The outermost pipe has an aperture, next to which a blocking device (9) is fitted, partly penetrating the aperture, being capable of blocking the position of the innermost pipe in the outermost pipe.
