Pharmaceutical composition containing folate precursor and a serotonin uptake inhibitor or a noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor useful for treating depression

A pharmaceutical dosage form of an anti-depressant contains a quantity of NRI (noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors) or SRI (selective or partially selective serotonin uptake inhibitors and a quantity of folic acid or other folate precursor such that the administration of 1 to 8 units of the dosage form provides a dose of NRI or SRI equivalent to the usually prescribed daily dose and from 400 to 5000 micrograms of folate. The medicament can be used to treat depression in patients who have a risk of developing or who have cardiovascular disease or for reducing adverse side effects in the treatment of depression.
