Reduction of the electrocardiographic QT interval

Use of proinsulin C-peptide or a functional variant, derivative or fragment thereof is described to be used in the manufacture of a medicament for reducing the QTc interval, as well as in the manufacture of a medicament for reducing the risk of sudden death or 'dead in bed' syndrome. The use is explained to be particularly beneficial for patients with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM). Specifically disclosed is a medicament composition containing 100-300nM of proinsulin C-peptide, and a medicament capable of providing a daily dose of 500-700nM of the peptide.
