A lighting assembly (100) for the illumination of an area, includes: a substantially opaque housing (110); illumination means including at least one extended light source (140) mounted within the housing; a first light emitting region , the first emitting region adapted to direct ad modify light from at least one extended light source to illuminate a first predetermined portion of the area; and a second light emitting region , the second light emitting region adapted to direct and modify light from at least one extended light source to illuminate a second predetermined portion of the area, wherein the first light emitting region includes reflection means to reflect a first portion of light from at least one extended light source and a first substantially planar lens element , wherein the reflection means reflects the portion of light substantially in a direction of the substantially planar lens element (122) to illuminate the first predetermined portion of the area.
