METHOD FOR PALLIATIVE TREATMENT OF PATIENTS WITH CANCER OF TONGUE AND MUCOSA OF BOTTOM OF ORAL CAVITY

The method for the palliative treatment of the patients with cancer of tongue and mucosa of the bottom of oral cavity comprises the selective intra-arterial chemotherapy performed via lingual or external carotid arteries. The surgical access directly to the blood vessels supplied the tongue and the oral mucosa is provided through the posterior triangle of the neck in the prevertebral layer of the cervical fascia bypassing the major roots of the lymphogenous metastasizing. With this aim, the incision is made along the posterior edge of the sternocleidomastoid muscle to the prevertebral layer of the cervical fascia. The common carotid artery, its bifurcation, and the internal carotid artery are separated for the access to lingual or external carotid arteries followed by their catheterization.
