The invention provides methods useful in DIAGNOSTICS ASSISTANCE IN ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE. The methods comprise measuring the amount of peptide amyloid-{BE} (X- (≥) 41) in cerebrospinal fluid of a patient. High levels of peptide are generally inconsistent with a diagnosis of ALZHEIMER DISEASE. Low levels of peptides are consistent with the disease, and other evidence, can provide a positive diagnosis. OTHER methods involve measuring the amounts of both the A {BE} (X- (≥) 41) AND TAU. Low levels of A {BE} (X- (≥) 41) AND TAU ARE HIGH LEVELS OF POSITIVE INDICATOR ALZHEIMER, while high levels of A {BE} (X- (OR GREATER EQUALS) 41) and low tau levels are an indication NEGATIVE ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE.
