This invention related to a process for the deinking of office wastepaperstocks which comprises: a) converting the wastepaper toa pulp, b) contacting the pulp with an aqueous medium of alkaline pHcontaining between 0.05 and 2 percent by weight, calculated ona dry weight basis of the pulp, of a deinking agent comprising a firstcomponent comprising at least one ethylene oxide adduct of adetergent-range alcohol having in the range of from 8 to 20 carbon atoms andan average of from 3 to 20 oxyethylene units per molecule ofalcohol, a second component selected from the group consisting of one or moredetergent-range olefins having from 8 to 22 carbon atoms, one or more saturated hydrocarbons having from 8 to 20 carbon atoms, andmixtures thereof and optionally a third component comprisinga detergent-range alcohol having from 8 to 20 carbon atoms, and c) treatingthe resulting pulp-containing medium by washing or flotationto remove suspended ink therefrom.
