Disclosed are multimetal oxide materials containing Mo, V, and one or several optional elements from the group comprising lanthanides, transition elements of the periodic table, and elements from main group three to six of the periodic table. Said multimetal oxide materials are produced in the presence of an alkali metal other than Li and are provided with an i-phase structure. Also disclosed is the use of the inventive multimetal oxide materials as an active material in catalysts for partial gas phase oxidations.
