The invention relates to a flame-retardant modified phosphorous copolyester whose phosphorus content ranges from 5 to 7 mass % and which is obtainable by esterificating at least one type of dicarboxylic acid with at least one type of diol and/or by transestereficating at least one type of dicarboxylic acid diester with at least one type of diol in the presence of one bifunctional flame-retardant additive compound DOP and at least one another phosphorous bifunctional additive compound which is different from the bifunctional DOP additive compound, and afterwards by polycondensating the thus generated products ether during the generation by esterificating and/or transestereficating. Said additive compound DOP supplies up to 3.5 mass % of a total phosphorus content whereas the rest of the total phosphorus content is supplied by the other bifunctional phosphorous compound. Said invention also relates to the inventive method for producing the flame-retardant modified phosphorous copolyester and the use thereof in the form of a master batch, in particular for producing polyester fibres whose total phosphorus content ranges from 0.4 to 0.7 mass %.
