In vitro selection of cardiomyogenic or heart muscle cells (A) from a mixture of other cell types. In vitro selection of cardiomyogenic or heart muscle cells (A) from a mixture of other cell types comprises: (a) introducing into the cells at least one selection construct (SC), based on a vector that does not integrate into the cellular genome and encodes at least one selection marker (SM) that is expressed specifically in (A); and (b) culturing the cells with addition of at least one cytotoxic or cytostatic selection agent (I) until a pure population of (A) is obtained. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) preparing pure cultures of (A) by applying the new process, removing (I) and further growth of the cells until SC, and optionally SM, has/have been lost; (2) pure cultures of (A) obtained by method (1); (3) cell-culture bank containing tissue-typed cultures of (2); (4) pure cell populations of (A) obtained by the new method; (5) preparing a tissue culture that contains (A); (6) tissue culture produced by method (4); and (7) a non-integrating vector of viral origin that contains at least one expression sequence that is active specifically in heart muscle cells and controls expression of an SM gene.
