A method for analyzing a signal emitted by an electrocardiogram (ECG) consisting in continuously recording an ECG during nocturnal sleep; extracting the intervals RR; analyzing said signal which is transformed into wavelets; considering successions of 256 or 512 or 1024 intervals, preferably 512 intervals; allocating a correlation coefficient between the observed signal and the wavelet to each succession at the level of frequency Wv32 or Wv16 or Wv8 or Wv64; calculating the variability power at said level corresponding to the sum of the squares of the coefficients. Use of the invention: construction of a decision tree with the aid of CART's method, and device adapted for the implementation of said method.
